New Hampshire's private sector follows the federal OSHA rule (29 CFR 1910.151(b)): no fixed first-aider-to-worker ratio, but where no infirmary or hospital is in near proximity, employers must keep adequately trained first-aiders on staff with supplies readily available. Public-employee safety is addressed under NH Admin Rule Lab 1400 (NH Department of Labor).
New Hampshire childcare licensing (He-C 4002.19(r)-(t) of the Child Care Program Licensing Rules) requires at least one staff person currently certified in pediatric CPR and first aid to be present with all children at all times, on and off premises. The rules are administered by the DHHS Bureau of Child Care Licensing.
New Hampshire's Good Samaritan law (RSA 508:12) protects a person who, without compensation and in good faith, renders emergency care at the scene from civil liability, with immunity lost only for wanton, willful or reckless conduct. There is no legal duty to rescue, and AED users acting in good faith are likewise protected absent gross negligence.
New Hampshire registered nurses must complete 30 contact hours of nursing-practice-related continuing education every two-year cycle, set by the NH Board of Nursing (Office of Professional Licensure and Certification). Basic Life Support is in practice an employer and hospital requirement rather than a standalone licence condition, with provider-accredited advanced resuscitation courses generally counting toward the hours.
In New Hampshire, Licensed Nursing Assistants (LNAs) complete CPR as part of the ~100-hour LNA program and graduate with CPR and home-health-aide credentials, while entry-level personal-care and home-health aides have no state hour minimum, so residential-care and home-health employers commonly require CPR and first aid. A recognized, up-to-date certificate meets this requirement in addition to occupational training and is renewed periodically.
Under New Hampshire foster family care licensing rules (He-C 6446), applicants must complete the DCYF pre-licensing training in its entirety — at least 30 hours — which includes first aid and CPR. The requirement is recognized by the Division for Children, Youth and Families (DCYF), and the certificate must be kept current from a recognized organization.
Online CPR and first aid training is recognized in New Hampshire, with Federal OSHA accepting blended training (online coursework plus an in-person hands-on skills demonstration) for workplace first aid and CPR. There is no ban on online training; online-only theory is discouraged only where practical skills such as CPR cannot be demonstrated.
